About Rabsaris
Rabsaris is an experienced doula with a passion to help people educate themselves to find their unique path to parenthood. She has a deep understanding about the mystery and evidence of labor, and uses her education and wisdom to support families no matter their choices. She is also bi-ligual and speaks English and Spanish.
Being a birth worker is the most reciprocal relationship I have found in my life. Witnessing people in their becoming, at their births, and in their most raw moments during postpartum has changed who I am and how I view the world. For the past ten years, I've attended over 200 births across homes, birth centers, and hospitals. I still get humbled every single time I walk into a birth room.
I am deeply interested in what makes people human. In advocacy and education. In the ways we can undo ourselves with just our thoughts, and heal ourselves by just breathing together. I love the science of birth and the mystery of it in equal measure. I love that no two births are ever the same. The families drawn to me tend to value education, a strong advocate by their side, and building a real relationship with their doula. I truly believe that all the communication and time dedicated prenatally is what makes the biggest difference during birth. There is no such thing as texting your doula too much. Getting to know you is where the magic happens, where trust is built, and where I get to use everything I know about birth in a way that is completely unique to you.
I am a certified birth doula, postpartum doula, childbirth educator, and Body Ready Method PRO. My training includes full-spectrum doula work, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, advocacy in medical settings, supporting SA survivors in birth, and families navigating NICU stays. I am an Evidence Based Birth Professional Member because there is always something new to learn, and I am a geek about it.
I am Venezuelan, and I was a doula long before I became a mother. My calling was not born out of my own experience but out of a deep love for supporting people through theirs. That said, having navigated my own unexpected birth as a cesarean mama who originally wanted a home birth only made me believe in this work more fiercely. I do not believe there is one right way to do this, and I love helping families find the way that is right for them.
Outside of birth work, I am a mom to one imaginative toddler, camping at national parks, hunting for a good swimming hole (please send recs), building LEGOs, chasing the perfect croissant, and always on the lookout for a good sci-fi book.
Client testimonial:
“My husband and I cannot say enough kind things about our doula , Shala. She was a calming force and a pillar of strength for us during our very long/stressful labor and delivery. We feel like Shala is now a part of our family and look forward to her being a part of our daughter’s life.
Prenatally, Shala was informative and extremely accessible to any questions we had. She sent us so many useful resources and backed up any advice for us. She helped us develop our birth plan and helped to guide us with questions for our healthcare provider. She gave us hands on tips to help relieve pain while laboring at home. Most importantly, after 37 weeks, she was constantly checking in with me and never made me feel I was bothering her but encouraged communication. I felt so supported - especially during my long nights of prodromal labor.
When it was time for the hospital, Shala was amazing. When it became clear that our birth plan would be augmented - she made us feel so supported and confident in our choices. She stayed with us every step of the way with various pain relief options, a calming voice or a needed laugh. My mom, who is a career nurse practitioner, was especially struck by her calming presence and her support.
Her postnatal visit was amazing as we were able to talk through the whole labor and I could start to process everything. She observed us breastfeeding and offered tips and introduced more resources to help us appropriately introduce bottles when the time comes.
My husband and I can not recommend Shala highly enough- if you have her as your doula please consider yourself lucky and look forward to gaining a friend !”
