Certified Birth Doula, Certified Childbirth EducatorClass Structure
Traditional childbirth education classes offer a wealth of helpful information, but they often spend significant time focusing on medical interventions and navigating the hospital-based model of care. To better support families planning a home birth, we created a childbirth education class specifically designed for people choosing to give birth at home.
Every birth unfolds in its own unique way. Understanding what to expect and learning how to navigate the possible twists and turns along your path to birth can help you feel more at ease, informed, and confident as you approach the end of your pregnancy. This class is designed to help you build a well-rounded “tool bag” filled with practical tips, evidence-based resources, and supportive strategies so you can move through labor and birth with greater confidence and calm.
How you feel about your birth experience matters—those feelings can last a lifetime. Our goal is to support you in preparing for the best birth experience available to you, honoring your choices and empowering you every step of the way.
In this class, you’ll learn ways to support optimal fetal positioning during pregnancy, understand variations of normal labor such as prodromal, back, and precipitous labor, and recognize the possible, probable, and positive signs of labor. We’ll explore the stages of labor and what you may experience physically, emotionally, and physiologically, along with comfort measures, drug-free pain management options, and a variety of positions for labor and pushing. You’ll also learn what typically occurs immediately after birth and how to thoughtfully plan for a possible transfer, should one become necessary.
The class includes a five-hour in-person session led by Hannah, a birth and postpartum doula and newborn care specialist, alongside Rachael, a birth doula and Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. Participants will also receive a comprehensive class workbook to support learning and reflection during and after the course.
